Canlubang City Car Park

This solar car park is the first installation of its kind in the Philippines, where PV technology is expected to increase dramatically.


In the Philippines, solar power is an especially promising renewable energy source owing to the country’s location near the equator and consequently high rate of solar insolation. Furthermore, the distrbution of land mass - some 300,000 square kilometers spread among more than 7,000 islands - means that power transmission can be extremely complex. The speed and flexibility of modern PV systems have thus attracted a lot of attention from the Philippine government and other stakeholders keen to meet burgeoning energy needs.

 

Transnational Uyeno Solar Corporation (TUSC) is one such stakeholder, established as a joint venture of Transnational Renewable Energy Corporation and Uyeno Transtech Limited. The two partners already had experience with Solar Frontier on other projects, including an innovative shipboard system installed on an oil tanker operated by Uyeno Transtech. TUSC inaugurated its first solar power plant in Canlubang City over a carpark at the NYK TDG Maritime Academy. The 179 kWp CIS system was chosen based on previous experience with Solar Frontier and compelling performance characteristics in high temperature regions.
